Former Denver Quarterback Loses In Ponzi Scheme
Sean Patrick Mueller of Mueller Capital Management, LLC, was charged with theft, securities fraud and violating Colorado’s organized crime law. According to prosecutors, Mueller sent fake monthly account statements to investors and provided accountants with fake statements showing consistent returns. However, instead of investing the money, Mueller bought homes, cars, country club memberships and lived a lavish lifestyle. He is being held in prison on a $2 million bond. John Elway and a business partner invested $15 million with the Greenwood Village hedge fund manager, whose threatened suicide in April 2010 unraveled an alleged Ponzi scheme involving some 65 people who had invested $71 million.
